Medicare

If Medicare is confusing to you, let Independent Financial Solutions clarify options so you can make an informed decision.

Your 65th birthday is a milestone when it comes to your health care choices.

That is because this is the first opportunity you can sign up for Medicare.

This Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) begins 3 months prior to your 65th birthday and ends 3 months after your 65th birthday.

The IEP can be postponed if you are still working and covered under an employer health plan.

You are eligible for Medicare if…

  • You are age 65 or older; or
  • You are under age 65 with certain disabilities; or
  • You are any age with End-Stage Renal Disease

If you’re like many people, the “noise” out there about Medicare may make you want to hide under the covers!

LET ME BE YOUR “MEDICARE MATCHMAKER!”

I’ll do the work of comparing plan benefits to make it easy for you to choose a plan that’s the right fit you.

When you and I review your Medicare options, we’ll address these and any other questions you may have to come up with the best coverage for you:

  • Should I take Medicare Advantage or Original Medicare? And what are these plans anyway?
  • What the heck are Parts A, B, C and D?
  • When should I enroll in Medicare?
  • Do I need to enroll in Medicare if I’m still working?
  • What does “Medigap” mean?

Medicare Definitions

Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance)

Part A covers inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health care (It does not cover custodial or long-term care).

Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance)

Part B covers up to 80% of certain doctors’ services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services at the Medicare approved rate (after an annual deductible).

Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage Plans)

A Medicare Advantage Plan is a type of Medicare health plan offered by a private company that contracts with Medicare to provide you with all your Part A and Part B benefits and many also include Part D.

Medicare Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage)

Part D adds prescription drug coverage to your Medicare plan.

Medicare Supplemental Insurance (Medigap)

A Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) policy, sold by private companies, can help pay some of the health care costs that Original Medicare doesn’t cover, such as copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.
